Description
Summary:Is school really a place for everyone? In this master thesis I will write about advantages and disadvantages for a pupil with cognitive disabilities, especially regarding the subjects science and technology. I have read articles and dissertations on the subject and I have also performed a number of interviews with parents, teachers and a head master to be able to come to some results. During the work I have learned a tremendous amount about both advantages and disadvantages and what is necessary to succeed with an integration. My results shows that there is not just advantages with integration on all levels but neither are there just negative aspects of it. It very much depends on the individual and its needs and special conditions. In some cases integration might be successful and in other cases it might not be a good idea. An important factor is that the teachers of the elementary school in question must get the competence and support they need to be able to feel that they can educate children with different conditions and not simply see it as a problem but instead see the possibilities. My opinion is that the current teacher education lack special education. To include special educational courses would be an important basis for pupils with cognitive disabilities to get a just and professional education when integrated in a regular elementary school.
