Many scientists suggest that the teacher's choice of map can have a big impact on the students view of the world. The purpose with this study is to examine how maps can lead to misconceptions among students and how the assortment maps are built upon affect their perception about the world. This study is based upon quantitative research. The research is gathered through empiricism by letting 92 students in seventh grade do a survey. The result showed that many students isn’t used to work with maps with different representations of the world and Mercators Eurocentric representation showed in their conception of the world. If students are going to develop their understanding of the world through maps, it's important that they're presented with different types of maps and that they actively get to work with different shapes and representations of the world.It was through this result the conclusion about how big the teacher's role is was drawn. Through varied map teaching, students can develop their understanding of the world through multiple perspectives.
