Summary: | 碩士 === 世新大學 === 資訊傳播學研究所(含碩專班) === 105 === Because of more abstract concepts added, many 5th graders are frustrated with the content of the social studies curriculum in the elementary school. Based on this, the study investigates the effects of mind mapping approach toward learning achievement, reading comprehension, oral expressing, summarizing, critical thinking, learning wiliness and learning motivation.
The research design is quasi-experimental. 2 classes of 5th graders participated in this 21-week teaching experiment. Research tools include achievement posttest, reading comprehension scale and oral expressing scale. The quantitative data is analyzed via descriptive statistics, Independent-Sample t Test, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient and Simple Linear Regression. The qualitative data is analyzed via the reflexive journal and mind mapping questionnaire.
The results show the experimental group performs better in learning achievement, reading comprehension, oral expressing, learning wiliness, learning satisfaction, summarizing and critical thinking. Mind mapping approach does help students in social studies learning.
According to the results of this study, suggestions are provided as important reference for future studies.
