Organizations are forced to enter a price war in order to stay in the competition. To cut costs down further, many organizations also turn to measures such as downsizing and redundancy etc. Making employees redundant or offering voluntary redundancy can be an effective way of retiring unproductive employees; however organizations are also running the risk of losing talented individuals during the process. Charismatic leaders are able to attract followers via their personality and charm. They use effective communication skills to establish a common goal, rather than using their power and authority to achieve consensus. A business leader’s ability to spot and manage talents has influence over the company’s sales performance and how well it can achieve its business objectives. This study aims to explore the influence of charismatic tendency of leaders on employee turnover intention, with a key focus on leaders’ communication skills and managerial capacity. The research subjects of this study were employees in the banking industry and a convenient sampling technique was used. Two hundred and fifty questionnaires were disseminated to employees of a bank which the author worked for. Two hundred and thirteen questionnaires were completed which gives a response rate of 85.2%. Correlations tests and regression analysis has been carried out, using SPSS, to test the hypotheses. The study results are as following: 1. The higher the charismatic tendency of a leader perceived by employees, the lower the employees’ intention to leave their job. 2. The level of a leaders’ communication skills perceived by employees significantly strengthens the negative relationship between the charismatic tendency level of the leader perceived by employees and the level of the employees’ intention to leave their job. 3. The level of a leader’s managerial capacity perceived by employees significantly strengthens the negative relationship between the charismatic tendency level of the leader perceived by employees and the level of the employees’ intention to leave their job. The study finds that a charismatic leader, equipped with effective communication skills and managerial capacity, encourages two-way communication which reduces conflict within their teams, helps employees resolve problems and lower their stress levels, and increases cohesion amongst employees. Therefore, the results show that it will reduce the employee turnover intention. CHEN,HUEI-FANG 陳惠芳 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 74 zh-TW
