The participants were26 studentsat Hsihsi Elementary School in Tainan City. This research was conducted twice a week, 40 minutes per period, and a total of 12 weeks (from October to December, 2016). The writing test and the questionnaire were collected to analyze the participants’ English writing ability and learning responses todifferentiated instruction.
The purposes of the study are as follows:
1. To explore the effect of teaching English writing with differentiated instruction methodto sixth graders’ English writing ability.
2. To explore the solution while facing the difficulties in teachingEnglish writing with differentiated instruction method.
3. To explore the teacher’s growth and introspection after teaching English writing with differentiated instruction method.
The major findings are summarized as follows:
1. There were significant differencesin English writing performances for the whole class after the differentiated instruction.
2. There were significant differencesinEnglish writing performancesfor students with high achievement after the differentiated instruction.
3. There were significant differences in English writing performancesfor students with low achievementafter the differentiated instruction.
4. The sixth graders had positive learning responses toward teaching English writing with differentiated instruction method.
5. The researcher learned how to increase students’ learningmotivation and how to do the curriculum design with peer teachers.
6. The researcher had introspection and growth after using strategies of teaching English writing with differentiated instruction method.
According to the major findings, this thesis concluded with some suggestions for English teaching and further research about English writing with differentiated instruction method.
