The research period spanned from November 2015 to May 2016. There are three objectives in this study: to develop a program of International Education in English class for elementary school fourth graders; to evaluate the performance of the students after receiving International Education;to investigate teachers’ reflection and growth from this action research.
The main conclusions are as follows:
1. The development and implementation of International Education:Integration of International Education into the fourth grade English curriculum is appropriate and can reach the targets of International Education. An International Education program can be applied in two semesters, so that students can learn not only English but also culture in different countries. The English teacher can collaborate with the art teacher, and they can be responsible for different parts of the lesson plan to provide increased benefit to students. There is no shortage of available resources to integrate International Education into English class, so the program can be applied every year at school.
2. Students’ learning outcomes: The main research tool is the International Education Questionnaire. In terms of cognitive domain, the learning effect is highly related to the time when the teacher schedules the lessons. Students have a better memory in three months of learning. In terms of affective domain, students learn about different cultures and become aware of cultural diversity. They also learn to respect and accept everyone from different countries. Within the psychomotor domain, students make great progress as measured by the Paired test of SPSS 17.0 analysis.
3. The researcher’s growth and reflections: The action research enhances a researcher’s teaching ability and solves the problem the researcher saw in daily teaching through the discussion and collaboration with the co-researcher. The researcher learns to understand different cultures from a new perspective. At the end of this project, the researcher participates in global help with students.
Finally, based on research conclusions, this study makes suggestions for the authorities concerned, school administrators, teachers, and future researchers.
