The methodology of content analysis was adopted in the study. After carrying out literature review and reliability and validity tests in accordance with study purposes and problems, seven main categories were developed and designed, namely: pitch, tonality, rhythm, harmony, music structure, terms and signs, and finally music history. Through quantitative and qualitative analyses, the researcher investigated the two beginning piano series’ editing logics and beliefs in music concept learning sequences. According to the result of data analysis, the conclusions were drawn as follows: 1. The teaching sequences of music concepts in these two theory teaching materials share commonality. Music concepts were both edited from easy to hard and step by step; in addition, the sequences were suitable for children’s development in music abilities. 2. In these two music theory series, the teaching sequences of the concepts of pitch and rhythm were most alike. The most different sequence was found in the concept of music history. That is, compared with “Faber’s theory book,” the content of music history in “Marlais’ theory book” was organized more clearly, offering children more comprehensive background knowledge. 3. These two music theory series were similar in their weights of the seven music concepts. The beginning piano learning can learn. Besides,“Faber’s theory book” emphasized more on the harmony-related concepts, while “Marlais’ theory book” focused on rhythm-related concepts more. Last but not least, the researcher proposed relevant suggestions in accordance with the study result, so as to provide references for the education administrative units, teaching material editors, teachers and researchers who carry out relevant study in the future.
