Before the full-scale study, a pilot study was conducted on fourth grade students in order to understand the acceptability among the students, and to find any possible difficulty for improving the full-scale study in advance. In the full-scale study on third graders, student ability was added as another variable or further investigation. The quantitative data was analyzed based on 3-way ANOVA , while the qualitative data was collected based on the attitude of students in the experiment. The study findings suggested that integrating board game into English teaching can improve students’ speaking significantly, especially for low achievers. On the other hand, the results of qualitative study showed that board game can increase student motivation effectively; furthermore, the heterogeneous grouping was suitable for high achievers while homogeneous grouping was appropriate for low and middle achievers. According to the overall results of study, it was highly recommended to integrate board game into English teaching combined the different methods of grouping based on students’ attribute, and moreover, to extend to other subjects for the reference of improving ability of elementary school students.
