Summary:碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 幼兒教育學系研究所 === 104 === This study aimed to explore the effects of media types on young children’s story-retelling and cognitive load. This study used experimental method with 55 pre-kindergarten children in Chiayi Taiwan as study objects. These participants were divided into the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group implemented audio-visual plus short animation; the control group implemented auditory plus cover picture. The experiment procedure included two stories. “The Revise Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test” , “The Story-Retelling Test” and “The Cognitive Load Test” were used as the pretest and the posttest. The data obtained were analyzed by ANCOVA and Independent-Samples t Test. The main findings of this study were as follows: 1. After receiving different media types activity, the experimental group and control group children appeared significant difference in element of story grammar – problem solving . 2. On “cognitive load”, there were no difference found in two groups. On the findings of this study, suggestions were proposed for teaching materials extract, teacher’s instruction, and future research.
