Summary:碩士 === 世新大學 === 口語傳播學研究所 === 103 === The purpose of this study is to examine whether elementary school substitute teacher experience role contradictions and how they manage them well if they encounter contradictions. This study adopted in-depth interviews as method, with 8 elementary school substitute teachers as research subjects. The interview data are transcribed and then are analyzed from the perspective of role dialectics. According to the analysis results of compiled interview data, results show that elementary school substitute teacher do experience role dialectics while communicate with parents and also tend to use various communication / praxis strategies to manage them. There are four types of role dialectics by elementary school substitute teacher including instructor vs. learner, leader vs. coordinator, counselor vs. coordinator, caregiver vs. stranger. Furthermore, results also suggest that the specific praxis strategies were chosen to manage the aforementioned role dialectics.
