Taiwan used to have a 97.7% food self-sufficiency rate before 1971, and imported beef has appeared in Taiwan market since 1966. In 1975, Taiwan government allowed beef-importing to stabilize market price due to the skyrocketing beef price during 1971 to 1974. Taiwan beef cattle industry was seriously damaged and leaded to only 5.5% of market share of domestic beef. This study will use Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) on Yun-Chang Ranch to re-examine Taiwan beef cattle industry, and analyze this industry’s positive and negative impacts on Taiwan agriculture, as well as assessing the possibility of raising domestic beef’s market share.
