Five four-year-old children from a private preschool in Changhua City participated in this study. The researcher aimed at identifying general trends and significant patterns among preschoolers’ reading progress. Classroom observations, parental interviews, and read-aloud evaluations were the major tools for data collection. The major findings showed that reading predictable books helped the preschoolers in developing their print awareness and some reading strategies. It also facilitated their willingness to explore books. Moreover, these children tried to use the learned predictable patterns in daily conversations. Besides, predictable books lowered EFL preschoolers learning anxiety and enhanced their confidence in English reading and speaking. The results indicated that reading aloud predictable books not only offered the preschoolers good experience in reading English books but also improved their English oral performance. This study may provide Taiwan preschool English teachers with some insights into predictable book instruction. Shan-mao Chang 張善貿 學位論文 ; thesis 118 en_US
