At the same time, Taiwan has introduced a large number of foreign youth fictions to allow Teenagers to have more choices and enriched the youth fiction’s market. Although this trend expands the international perspective of Taiwan’s teenagers, the cross-cultural differences in translation should not be ignored. The translators pay attention only to language transformation. It would neglect the importance of culture, causing young people to have cultural conflicts or misunderstanding when they read translated fictions. In addition, so the translator must take the youth’s language proficiency and style of Target language’s country into consideration. Since their language proficiency is weaker than adults and their social experiences are also insufficient, therefore, the translators should be cautious about coping with those details to possible be. For instance, it can arouse the reader’s interests, and readably of using teenagers’ language. As a result, this paper uses cross-cultural communication translation as my theoretical framework, and takes the youth fiction “Wenn das Gl&;uuml;ck kommt”, written by German Youth Literature Writer- Mirjam Pressler writes, as my case. I want to find out how to effectively use translation strategies dealing with cultural translation problems, and exam whether these strategies are inappropriate or not. In this thesis, the collected examples of cultural translation problems are classified as 11 categories: Food, goods, plants, animals, specific names, name of stories and games, name of the currency, name of local institution, idioms and proverbs, title of the article and other cultures. I select representative examples of those mentioned above and also analyze the misleading parts. The final results of my analysis hope to improve the quality of Taiwan’s youth fictions and highlight the significant of cross-cultural differences in translation.
