Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄應用科技大學 === 觀光與餐旅管理研究所 === 102 === According to the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), MICE industry has been well-developed in Europe and the U.S. and reached an annual global market value of US$1.2 trillion. The industry brings enormous economic benefit to the countries and cities that host the events. In Taiwan, MICE has been a target market of tourism since the Tourism Bureau published “Tourism Policy White Paper” in 2001. Data of the Tourism Bureau showed that 77,924 tourists visited Taiwan for the reasons of conferences and exhibitiions in 2013. The tourist number indicated 79% of MICE growth in the past decade.
However, the focal point of MICE industry development has centered in Taipei, which embraced the main exhibition halls and international convention center in Taiwan. Kaohsiung, as the second largest city in Taiwan, falls far behind in MICE development and impedes the city’s tourism progress. Therefore, this research collected information from the related literature and applied Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to explore the possible key success factors of MICE development in Kaohsiung. The research found the key success factors were government units, software and hardware facilities, economic and cost, transportation, travel resources, and hotels and restaurants.
