Summary: | 碩士 === 南台科技大學 === 生物科技系 === 100 === The spread of antibiotics-resistant bacterium is one of the most serious problems in clinical treatment of microbial diseases. The use of medicinal plants as a source for
alternative antibiotics becomes very potential in these days.
This study was designed to examine the efficacy of ethanol and water extracts of the seed coat of Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre for antibacterial potential against antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens. We collect common clinical infectious bacterium including antibiotics more sensitive bacterial strains---methicillin sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), Staphylococcus epidermidis, vancomycin susceptible Enterococcus (VSE), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp, and highly antibiotics resistant bacterial strains--- methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin resistant Enterococcus (VRE), extended-spectrum beta-lactamase- producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (ESKP) and Escherichia coli (ESEC) and pandrug- resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (PDR-Ab). The antibacterial ability was test by agar dilution, broth dilution and time killing methods. The results of this study suggest that both ethanol and water extracts of P. pinnata seed coat have excellent inhibitory ability against all test bacterium even pan antibiotics resistant strains.
