Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 數理教育研究所 === 99 === The purpose of this study is to discuss the process and effectiveness of applying interactive white boards in teaching the conceptions of area to fifth grade remedial students in elementary schools. The conceptions of area include “the measurement conception of area” and “the estimate conception of area”. Four fifth graders in the researcher’s school participated in this study. The researcher is also as an instructor and designed three activities ---“the expert of measurement”, “the expert of copy-paste” and “the expert of estimate”. In addition, the researcher used multiple functions of the interactive white board when teaching remedial classes. There are six remedial classes and students learn through small-group lecture and use of the interactive white board. The research tool is a test on the conceptions of area. The methods of data collection include pretest, posttest, video recording, interview, mathematics diary, and teaching reflection notes. Both qualitative and quantitative data analyses were involved in this research. Results of this study show that the use of multiple functions of interactive white boards, such as, “screen capture”, “touch and drag”, “infinite cloner” and , “electronic measuring instrument” in teaching remedial classes can improve the atmosphere of learning and motivate students to answer questions. Moreover, it can help students to correct and reinforce ideas about the conceptions of area. Interactive white boards can also play the role of teacher’s assistant in designing curriculum, and enrich student learning. Overall improvement between pretest and posttest scores indicates that the application of interactive white boards into remedial teaching can enhance student learning in the conceptions of area.
