Summary: | 碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 教育心理與諮商學系碩士班 === 99 === This study examines four mothers’ learning experiences in filial therapy and explores their changes during and 2-month after filial therapy This qualitative study adopted phenomenological approach, used in-depth interview to collect data, and phenomenological analysis to summarize and analyze data.
The main findings of the study included that participants’ initial reactions were puzzled about the training program. From the sharing and discussion in group, they enriched their visions about children and felt encouraged and supported. In the middle stage, participants were faced with the difficulty of learning skills and the challenge of child’s special problems. In later stage, they had more awareness and insight about themselves as well as their parening skills. Leader’s assistance and participants’ original knowledge helped them to adjust better.
All the participants confirmed that either they or their focus child had positive change in terms of the parent-child relationships and other relationships. However, due to following reasons, there were limited follow-up effects: There are some differences between Eastern and Western cultures in parenthood; participants have to face with other people’s judgement about their child rearing behaviors; they don’t have enough support or supervision after the training, and they have to deal with the challenges about their own beliefs or habits. Nevertheless, they still emphasized the importantce and value of filial therapy trainging and hoped to have advanced training afterwards.
The implication about the findings and suggestions for future study were addressed.
