Summary:碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 教育研究所 === 98 === This study explored the effect of teaching the Respect Character Education with picture books for Taroko elementary students, and analyzed the professional growth of the researcher after applying picture books based on the theme of the Respect Character Education in teaching. Action research was applied, and experimenting teaching was conducted to 21 elementary school students in fifth grade from September to November in the year of 2009 with four forty- minutes classes per week. Evaluation of the teaching results was completed by studying learning activities, feedbacks, surveys, interviews and teachers’ logs to learn about the learning outcome and teacher student interaction. The result demonstrated that teaching the respect with picture books enhances students’ self-respect, and develops attitude of being respectful to others and the environment. The post test scores have shown that more than 50% of students achieved higher scores. Finally, the teacher has also improved in knowledge learning, critical thinking skills and self growth through the process of teaching.
