This study also investigated the differences of social interest, and well-being between students of different gender and family situation . The sample consisted of 736 students from the fifth to sixth grade of 12 elementary school within the five counties of the middle of Taiwan in spring, 2010. Instruments used in this study included the Teacher Discipline Scale, the Social Interest Scale, and Well-being Scale. Data obtained in this study were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way MANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, simultaneous multiple regression and hierarchical regression analysis. The main findings were as follows: (1) More students perceived their teacher as “supporter”, followed by, “negotiator”, “compromiser” and “abdicator” “enforcer”.; (2) The social interest of fifth and sixth graders in elementary school were at the upper middle level; (3) The well-being of fifth and sixth graders in elementary school were at the upper middle level; (4) Speaking of the different gender, there were significant differences in social interest and well-being; (5) Speaking of the different family situation, there were significant differences in social interest and well-being; (6) The levels of the teaching styles,“supporter”, “negotiator” and “compromiser”, were positively related to the social interest and well-being of the sixth and the fifth grade students; (7) Social interest was significantly related to well-being of the sixth and the fifth grade students; (8) Teacher discipline and social interest significantly predicted well-being of the sixth and the fifth grade students; (9) Teacher discipline has its moderating effect between social interest and well-being.
