This study aimed to understand the experiences of teachers, who participated in a reading group led by principal and explore how these experiences affect the growth of individual teachers. The main study subjects are six teachers. Through depth interviews with six participants, complemented by individual reading reports, and researcher’s reflective journal, the study tries to understand the group members’ growth experiences of participating reading group led by principal.
The main findings are as follows:
A、Reading experiences of teachers who participated in reading group
(a) Teachers’ reading orientation changed from personal-oriented to organization-oriented.
(b) Teachers’ motivation of participating in reading group is affected by principal’s way of leading. Intrinsic motivations are triggered by external factors.
(c) Teachers’ experiences in reading group has a tendency of individual transformational learning, which through self-adjustment process, leads to positive thinking and towards self-realization. The activities of reading group lead to individualized knowledge deconstruction and reconstruction.
B、 The effects on teachers’ growth after they participated in reading group
(a) Guided reading and listening mechanism will enhance the knowledge of teachers.
(b) Reading situations in reading group allow teachers to reflect and change their attitude of teaching.
