It aims to investigate the appropriateness of the school-based visual arts curriculum implemented in Taipei Daan Primary School, to explore the demands, and the factors that influence the development of the curriculum, as well as the impacts of this curriculum on the school and the students. This study serves as a reference with respect to the development of school-based Visual Arts curriculum for Taipei Daan Primary School. Adopting qualitative research methods, the researcher, as a complete participant, collected information by observation, questionnaires (interview), daily records, documents gathered from curriculum development, questionnaires by students about teaching effectivenesss, etc. for further arrangement, analyses and generalization. Teaching activities were designed and engaged in by the researcher herself and 6th graders. According to the practice, several findings are summarized as follows: 1. The implementation of school-based Visual Arts curriculum raised the students’ learning interests and effects, supplementing insufficient textbooks. 2. The teaching that develops school-based Visual Arts curriculum should suit the educational environment, as well as the spirit of multiple developments of each school. 3. The contents of school-based Visual Arts curriculum should be selected and designed according to educational circumstances after analyses of students’ prior learning experiences and ability assessment. 4. The design and implementation of the curriculum should gain support from parents after they fully recognize the course. 5. With the joint of technology and e-teaching, the implementation of school-based Visual Arts curriculum is facilitated. However, mature management and maintenance are also required.
