Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 應用外語系碩士班 === 95 === The present study aimed to investigate the effects of the design of question stems and the presence of contextual clues on vocational high school students '' performance on the vocabulary test. The main research questions explored in this study were: (1) Do vocational high school students of the same level have different performances between vocabulary tests with question stems of gap filling and the ones with question stems of synonym recognition? (2) Are there any significant differences between proficient and less proficient students’ performances on the same type of vocabulary test? (3) What are vocational high school students’ performances on each type of vocabulary tests as the test item''s word level is raised? (4) Does the presence of question stems with synonym recognition facilitate vocational high school students'' performance on vocabulary tests? The subjects were 155 vocational high school students randomly selected from two national vocational high schools in central Taiwan. Each subject was asked to take the Vocabulary Levels Test and divided into proficient group and less proficient group according to their vocabulary size. Both groups took the vocabulary tests of two types of question stems. The collected data were analyzed by adopting descriptive analysis, paired-sample t-test, and independent-sample t-test.
