Description
Summary:碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 國民教育研究所 === 95 === This study applies Bourdieu’s theoretical formula (habitus(capital)+field=practice) to explore the relationship between parent’s social class and student’s learning by using case study. A 5th grade class is selected for this study. Six students are chosen as subjects of the study, three of them are from working class families and the others are from middle class families. Interviews with student’s mother were conducted in order to comparing characteristics and differences of habitus and capital between two social classes of students, and classroom observations and teacher interviews were undertaken for understanding how student’s habitus and capital impacted on their school learning. The major results are summarized as follows: 1. Working class students’ habitus and capital are difficult to be transformed as factors helpful for their school learning. They do face some learning problems due to their maladjustment to the school pratice dominated by middle class values. 2. Middle class students’ habitus and capital, cultivated and accumulated from family, can be helpful for their academic achievements and their interactions with teachers. 3. Most of results found in this study are in general similar to Lareau’s findings on the differences between middle class and labor class children of the United States. 4. The relationship between class and habitus is not necessarily unaltered, there are some variations from the typical cases. Suggestions for future studies are proposed based on the research findings.
