Using chlorine solutions to wash foods may reduce food poisoning microorganisms, reduce insect damages as well as the use of traditional pesticides in plantation. The objectives of this study were designed to evaluate the effectiveness of four chlorine solutions, including acidic electrolyzed (AC) water (pH 2.8), alkaline electrolyzed (AK) water (pH 12), sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and acidified NaOCl (pH 4.5) solutions on sprouts and vegetable planting. Soaking seeds for 10 min, chlorine solutions have decrease total plate count and colifroms significantly. The sprouting presentation has decrease with longer soaking time and lower pH value. The chlorine solutions didn’t effect on microorganism of sprouts planting. There have the partial effects on reducing growth of microorganism in vegetables and have little influence to the plant growth. Using AC water, 50 ppm NaOCl and the acidified NaOCl solution to sterilize seeds for 10 min, can reduce approximately 2 log CFU/g of total plate count as compared with the control group. Used electrolyzed water as irrigation water didn’t affect quality of vegetables as in tap water in proximate analysis of vegetables including protein, ash, moisture, crude fiber, vitamin C and the chlorophyll content. Vegetables and soils irrigated by electrolyzed water have higher Na content, but it didn’t affect the absorption of P, Ca and Mg for plants. But when irrigating the crowndaisy chrysanthemum and lactuca sativa using NaOCl may retard the growth of plants due to higher NaOCl concentration. Irrigated Lactuca sativa by 50-100 ppm NaOCl had lower average weight about 38% than the control, and the leaves of lactuca sativa were brittle and showing gangrene. Bleaching color of leaves, the Hue angle value (107.7, 116.8) drop to 103.8, 113.1 occurred in NaOCl group. AC water with AK water/ sterile water used as sprinkling solutions daily may decrease total plate count, colifroms, mold and yeast significantly. AC water with sterilized water may decrease the effects when mold and yeast were increasing.
