The purpose of this study to explore historical contexts and development courses in an education organization was in light of chaos theory. The progress of the sample school in the stages of establishment, evolvement and robustness and the way the school reacts against external environmental changes and internal organization conflicts. In addition, it is intended to interpret from the viewpoint of chaos theory, including dissipative structure, butterfly effect, strange attractors, feedback mechanism, self-similarity and self-organization, the chaos phenomena during the school development progress. The objective is to use a new science viewpoint, dancing with chaos theory all along, to construct the future image for the school.
In this study, it starts with theoretical exploration on the viewpoints of organizations in either new or old paradigm science, the development and contents of chaos theory, study basis and process, school development process and related researches. After that, Rong -Fu Elementary School, in Taipei County, was chosen as the case study. Through data collection, profound interviews and data analysis, the details of various incidents about people and administrative matters during the school development progress are fully understood. Three Chapters, organization built upon strange attractors, growing up out of feedback mechanism and good upbringing originated from chaos energy, describe the development of the case study school establishment, evolvement and robustness respectively. Furthermore, the chaos theory is applied to interpret the development progress of Rong-Fu Elementary School.
It is found in this research that the strange attractors occur naturally in school.For those educational activities such as Bookworm System promotion, school orchestras development and Swimming as an Expertise movement, the members of the team can, through mutual listening, transforming and respecting others’ individual behavior, gradually create a trustworthy, carefree, cooperative and close relationship and organization culture. And, it forms feedback mechanisms, creates multiple developmental learning platform for students, gives teachers the stage for democratic and professional performance, provides parents the chance to participating school affairs and effectively implements the co-evolution outcome. The butterfly effect, coming from chaos, through the positive feedback effects of school open-systems, produced the creative and executive capabilities for the school development and formed today’s Rong- Fu Elementary School image – “loving teachers”, teaching earnestly, “passionate parents”, contributing service, and “lucky students”, obtaining multiple development.
