碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 設計研究所 === 94 === In persisting developmental process, knowledge has been accumulating ever since the ability to read. And yet, the human interaction with writing has also remarked a revolutionary change with information and technical development of 21st century today. In other words, the diversity of information and technical elements of multimedia, hypermedia and digital media also form part of the developmental process. Not only multimedia and hypermedia are in tune with the non-linear human thinking, but also serve to elevate the intent to use frequency as well as fulfilling differences of individual needs. Despite all, high interactive level of various media causes all to return to their primordial multimedia and sensory experiences. Where crisis abounds, however, and in identifying the potential problems of ever building cognitive burden, difficulty in consolidating knowledge structure, illusionary as well as aimless are all intrinsic and parallel features of multimedia and children’s reading experiences.
In addressing the above phenomenon, this experimental design research is based on the study of a Grade 3 (a total of 159 samples from a class of 80 males and 79 females) and a Grade 5 (a total of 152 samples from a class of 75 males and 77 females) of a primary school in Keelung. The electronic children’s book available from internet is used for experimentation. Three different interactive levels (none, low and high) of studies are part of the participants’ reading experimentation. This experimental design research is actually a form of 2 X 2 X 3, the three way factorial ANOVA sampling. Where tested methodology is derived, observations by the non-participants are also circumscribed into the study in order to understand the different interactive levels in influencing reading effects and attitude of different grades and genders of the participants themselves. Moreover, various types of button design on those electronic children’s books in meeting the needs or preferences of different grades and genders are also studied. The relationship resulting from the existing condition of participants’ computer, internet facilities available from home, and reading experiments with respect to this experimental research is also derived.
The research results are as follow:(1)The interactions between Grade levels and interactive levels are revealed in memorizing images. Under the conditions of low interactive level, Grade 3’s is more apparent in their image memory than that of Grade 5’s. Yet, Grade 5 excels remarkably compare to Grade 3’s image memory when performing under the high interactive level. On the other hand, Grade 3 participants performing under the low interactive level excel remarkably compare to those from the no interactive and high interactive level groups.(2)The interactions between Grade levels and interactive levels are revealed in the overall reading effects. Performing under the conditions of no interactive and high interactive level groups, Grade 5 participants’ total score point is more apparent compare to Grade 3. However, Grade 3 participants when performing under the low interactive level group score full point compare to the no interactive level group, also better than the high interactive level group.(3)The reading effects of female samples are more apparent compare to the male samples.(4)The interaction of genders and interactive levels influences the extent of participants’ clear understanding in themes. Performing under the conditions of high interactive level, female samples shows clearer understanding in the theme of electronic children’s books compare to the male samples.(5)Participants’ genders show differences in the needs and preferences of interactive design unit.(6)Reading effect of the participants shows remarkable relationship in between availability of home computer and internet facilities.(7)Forming a part of the project study, the reading attitude of the participants attains remarkable relationship in between availability of home computer and internet facilities.
Via children’s viewpoints, this research takes a retrospective and investigative look into the problems of education and publication today. Concurrently, through understanding children’s pragmatic needs and preferences, it is hope that parents, teachers, designers and related information bodies are all well furnished with a healthy process of learning by means of a form of joyful development.
