Summary:碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 兒童文學研究所 === 92 === The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of life education-centered guided reading of young adult novels, which triggers self-affirmation, caring and protection of life and respect for life, on elementary school art class students. The objectives of this study are as follows: 1. To discuss guided reading of young adult novels and its inspiration for children’s self affirmation, caring and protection of life and respect for life. 2. To discuss improvement of children’s ability of problem-solving with calmness and ration through life education. 3. To research on improvement of expression and communication skills through guided reading of young adult novels. 4. To research on children’s thinking and perception about meaning of life through guided reading of young adult novels. 5. To investigate the effects on children’s interest in reading through guided reading of young adult novels. The results of this study are as follows: 1. When guiding 5th and 6th graders in reading young adult novels, it is more appropriate to start with short stories. 2. To improve children’s reading interests and comprehension, it has a better effect to conduct activities of topic analysis, character development, background and incident explanation and author introduction. 3. To further reinforce children’s reading comprehension, connect with their life experience and engage them more in discussion, it is recommendable to choose novels of the same topic for guided reading. 4. The main purpose of guided reading is to lead students toward better comprehension and appreciation of literary works, and to foster their critical thinking and creativity. 5. Guided reading of life education provides children with more diverse and abundant life experience.. 6. Guided reading of life education nurtures children’s caring and respect for themselves and others. 7. Guided reading of life education helps children with self-adjustment in dilemmas. 8. The life education-based, young adult novel-aided cross-subject integrated teaching is beneficial to effective teaching.
