碩士 === 國立台北師範學院 === 數理教育研究所 === 91 === The research investigated the causes of alternative conception when first-grade junior high school students study about “World under Microscope” by cross analysis of qualitative and quantitative inforemation.
By “Two-tier Multiple Choice Instrument about world under Microscope” (Chowch Lu, 2003).and focusing-type examination of mistakes often made by junior high school students, analysis of students’ knowledge sources, inte-
rpretative analysis of classroom observation and interview, and difference of
sex, achievements or interests analyzed by SPSS statistics software to under-
stand the classifications of students’ preconception and alternative conception generated by teachers and textbooks.
The results as follow:
1. Students are affected by instincts and life experience in these two preconcepts of “Relative concepts of microscope operation skills” and “Cognition the difference of animal cell and plant cell”.
2. Knowledge and concepts sources about “World under Microscope” come from teachers and textbooks.
3. No obviously difference in learning “World under Microscope” for students’ sex, but the level of achievements or interests affects learning.
4. Oral description and teaching lack of interaction cause mixture of knowledge and concepts easily.
5. Too simplified and fuzzy words or pictures will mislead concept-learning of students.
Finally, we provide a proposal based on this research results for teachers’ teaching, word-picture displaying in textbooks, and forecast of researchers as a teaching strategy to change students’ concept in the future and a reference of follow-up research.
