The research was in the case of the phases of the moon based on the curriculum of the elementary schools. 475 students of grade 6 were asked to complete a pre-test on an achievement test. After two weeks, they then read the respective texts and completed a post-test. Moreover, 16 students were interviewed individually also to realize their viewpoint and awareness to different disposals of the text and illustration. The result of the research found the fact that the influence of the phases of the moon was immense (P< .05). Among them, the effects of the “MA” were significant better than those which “NR” and “TO”. The effect of the “IT” was significant better than “TO”. And there were no significant difference between the “MA” and “IT”. Concluding from the results of the interviews with the students, the study also found their fondness of articles. Ten (62.5%) of them preferred the “IT”, five (31.3%) of them preferred the “MA”, and only one (6.3%) preferred the “NR”. As to their dislikes, up to ten (62.5%) of them disliked texts the “TO” and six (37.5%) disliked the “NR”. Concluding from the questionnaires on their opinions of the use of illustrations in the texts, students preferred the text presented along with the illustration. Most of students has positive attitude toward the importance of the textbook. Finally, the research also provided suggestions for the disposals of text and illustration, teachers’ teaching strategies, educational institute, and research in the future.
