Summary:The article deals with one of the most important problems in modern methodology: the problem of teaching to understand a written text. We discuss characteristics of such concepts as "understanding", "perception" and "text", as well as offer classifications of the structure of understanding. The article renders an analysis of techniques of understanding and their classification in relation to the lessons of the Russian language where analytical reading is taught. The article also presents a system of exercises focused on attentive reading and deep understanding.
