Summary:The history/social studies teacher’s education and its relation to politics and utopias, from the point of view of academic authors from Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay are the theme of this text, that aims, first, to contextualize a postdoctoral research in the Programa de Pós–Graduação em Educação (mestrado and doutorado) of the Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (Paraná/Brasil). The second goal is to present an overview of academic research on history/social studies teacher’s education in these countries. The method chosen for the collection of texts is described and the topics of study, the theoretical and methodological framework adopted and the arguments and proposals of the authors are discussed. The ultimate goal is to encourage debate on the investigative possibilities of history/social studies teacher’s education in its attribution of political and utopian meanings to their tasks.
