Summary:This article discusses a few characteristics of the Science Education developed in the last series of the elementar y school. It also analyzes the adopted Science textbooks and what Chemistry contents are taught for students in the 9th grade. The analysis of these issues shows that in Science, the Chemistr y is worked disciplinarily, contrasting to the interdisciplinarity and contextualization needed for the citizenship development during basic school. As proposed, we present a few points to be considered for the school program of science with a view to promote Scientific and Technological Literacy, having the theme Milk as an example.
