The study of the notions of Orient and Occident, considered here as ambiguous disciplinary contents, allows to think about the construction, by the teacher and elementary school’ students, of the meaning given to these contents, and the tenseness generated. The findings that emerge are positioned in relation with the purposes and the practices of school history in the elementary school.
