Nutrient-driven genome evolution revealed by comparative genomics of chrysomonad flagellates

Majda and colleagues employ a comparative genomic approach to investigate the effect of nutrient and carbon shortage on chrysophyte evolution. Their results indicate that heterotrophic taxa have reduced genome size and higher GC content compared to phototrophic taxa.
