Diameter stem changes detection sensor evaluation using different size of strain gauge on Dendrobium stem

In this study, we evaluated 3 sizes of strain gauge (2mm, 5mm and 8mm) and its instrumentation that available in local market to detect the displacement changes in diameter of cylindrical structure form, a Dendrobium orchid stem, including its measurement technique and data analysis. Description
Summary:In this study, we evaluated 3 sizes of strain gauge (2mm, 5mm and 8mm) and its instrumentation that available in local market to detect the displacement changes in diameter of cylindrical structure form, a Dendrobium orchid stem, including its measurement technique and data analysis. The correlation (R2) performance evaluated between the final output (mV) of every strain gauge size that connected in Wheatstone bridge form with known displacement (mm) changes setting using micrometer. Furthermore, the capability of each strain gauge to detect the displacement changes in diameter of Dendrobium orchid stem also investigated. This investigation was important in order to choose the best size of strain gauge for measurement a group of Dendrobium orchid stem to study plant water status for future watering scheduling system development.
