Summary: | The development of efficient, structured, and maintainable high-performance computing and networking applications is key to the success of many industrial high-performance computing system users and software houses. Recognizing this, the European Commission tasked Smith System Engineering and the University of Southampton's Parallel Applications Centre to conduct a survey of HPCN tools. The survey had two main objectives: ~ to assess the status of Europe's HPCN software tools, and ~ examine the market forces that contribute to the success of those tools. The survey results could be used to ascertain how best to meet end-user requirements when supporting software development and to give the EC an idea of the state of software being developed in its projects and programs. In this article, we describe the findings of the survey and analyze them using a model of the market structure created on the basis of the findings. |
