The control system originating from the design phase of the accelerator based on a 16-bit architecture in its local control unit was no longer expandable. During the 10 year plus service the must arose to expand the beam transport system with new components and to add new functions to the S-DALINAC control. These impovements aimed to rise the reproducability of the beam settings. Based on two 64-bit AXPvme VMEbus single board computers the new local control system was designed and implemented. To intigrate the beam transport hardware a redesign of theinterfaces for the power supply and beam diagnosis elements was necessary. The underlying concept is based on the real-time operating system VxWorks and an object-oriented approach compliant to modern software engeneering methods.
