Some of the applications of Wireless sensor networks include advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), power fraud detection, dynamic thermal rating, conductor temperature and poles monitoring. Wireless sensors in AMI generally use battery operated computing and sensing devices known as smart meters. So increasing the lifetime of these smart meters is a critical issue. We propose a low-energy consuming MAC protocol for AMI and we compare it with the existing protocols like CSMA, TDMA and Z-MAC protocols. The performances of the MAC protocols are evaluated in terms of Throughput, Power Consumption and Latency. 2015-08-01T07:00:00Z text application/pdf https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/theses/1722 https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2736&context=theses Theses OpenSIUC
