Summary:The Degree Work brings information on the contemporary family. The first part involves theory, which is in compliance with literary sources, developmental characteristics of the family and its members, its significance and possible problems. The practical part is focussed on particular research of selected family characteristics at junior school pupils (research sample involved 43 pupils from the eighth form). Using the methods of questionnaires (both standardized and non-standardized) there were found out pupils opinions on selected family characteristics. The hypotheses concerning the functionality of the contemporary family, stated in advance, were being verified and interpreted. Conclusion, which summarizes the established facts, sounds quite optimistically {--} children perceive the family positively, mutual relations between parents and children are basically good. Recommendations for teachers on their work with the family follow.
