Description
Summary:(in English) The topic of this thesis is the work of Romanian writer Petru Cimpoeşu, in the context of the so-called '80s generation, a group of authors who entered the Romanian literary scene in the 1980s and contributed to its "synchronisation" with the course of events in the West. They brought innovative textualist and postmodern methods; among typical features of their writing we can count, for example: a return to the prosaic, intertextuality, autoreferentiality, stylistic polyphony, irony and self-irony. In this context, four works of Petru Cimpoeşu, published between 1983 and 2008, are analyzed (two collections of short stories and two novels). The thesis follows the evolution of the author's work, his subject matter and expressive means and is focused on his specific humour, which is based in irony. A separate chapter is dedicated to the critical reception of Cimpoeşu's work. On the basis of the analysis we can, with certain reservations, consider Petru Cimpoeşu as a member of the '80s generation - although he himself rather rejects this label. His latter work signals a clear move towards postmodernism. At present, Petru Cimpoeşu holds a place among the most critically acclaimed Romanian writers.
