The First Republic and its media are introduced in the early chapters, subsequently are defined concepts of value and health. Using the method of discourse analysis this thesis reveals how the First Republic printed media wrote about health, how they presented the value of health to the readers and in what discourse. The journal that focused on health was Zdraví lidu magazine. This thesis focuses on years 1923, 1928, 1933 and 1938. Articles in this magazine were intended to laic readers and the style of writing about health was adapted them. Authors have written in "laical style" with minimum of technical terms, simply and in detail. Articles were written as scientific- popular texts that educated readers, or as detailed instructions how to take care of health. In all four analysed years, the value of health was associated with the health of the nation, not individuals. The nation had to be healthy and strong to resist. The strongest this phenomenon occurs in 1923, when was celebrated five-year anniversary of the Republic, and in 1938 when the Munich Agreement was signed and when a war was expected.
