Afro-American spirituals originated the elements of the whole scale of that is now called modern music (blues, jazz, rock'n'roll, pop-music etc.). To elected lyrics there are invited melodies, for to catch the poetry of the spirituals. Spirituals influenced a number of the composers in fin de siécle (from Czech ones we can mention Antonín Dvořák on the field of classical music, and Jaroslav Ježek on jazz).
