Description
Summary:This diploma thesis "Spirituals, sacred songs of the American Negro" deals with the Negro spiritual, the conditions of its origin; and how they influenced the music culture - at first in the USA, later on in Europe, nowadays all over the world. Afro-American spirituals originated the elements of the whole scale of that is now called modern music (blues, jazz, rock'n'roll, pop-music etc.). To elected lyrics there are invited melodies, for to catch the poetry of the spirituals. Spirituals influenced a number of the composers in fin de siécle (from Czech ones we can mention Antonín Dvořák on the field of classical music, and Jaroslav Ježek on jazz). We can find them even in the hymn-books of some churches.
