Summary: | This work is focused on the reign of Richard II and the circumstances of his overthrow by Henry of Bolingbroke. The first part offers an overview of main trends in the history of the late medieval English kingdom with a special attention to the development of the parliament as a representative institution with a number of its particular rights and conventions. The study also explores standards, values and principles that motivated contemporary politicians, i.e. the most influential aristocrats and the members of the parliament. The main goal of this work is to introduce and substantiate author's crucial assertion that there was no significant role of parliament in the events of 1399 as it is often believed. |
