Increased incidence of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) has been associated with age of men. The quality of lives gets worse in men with BPH. Adenocarcinoma of the prostate (CaP) is the most common malignant disease in aged men, younger men as well. In 2005 the incidence of prostate cancer has exceeded the number of occurrence of lung cancer in the Czech Republic. Prostate specific antigen (PSA) has found widespread usefulness in diagnosis of prostate cancer and BPH, too. PSA is organ-specific marker only, therefore, new options (modify PSA, new markers) have been searched to improve CaP detection. Histological estimation of prostate biopsy specimens validates the diagnosis of CaP. Gleason score (GS) determining histology of biopsy tissue affect treatment strategy. Frequently GS of biopsy can be varying GS of final preparation after radical prostatectomy. Therefore, we analyzed the correlation between the prostate biopsy GS and GS of final preparation in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy. Almost half of cases in this group of 88 patients treated in The Clinic of urology in Faculty Hospital of Hradec Králové was identical to GS of prostatectomy specimens and same part of cases was undergraded.
