Summary: | Although I was aware it was something of a minefield, I ventured to undertake the risky task of trying to throw light on theological approaches to prose fiction. Passages devoted to Dietmar Mieth and Dorothee Sölle form the central focus and basis of this thesis, and in them I attempt not only to interpret their approach to literature, but also to present the theology of these authors. In places where this is possible, I attempt to provide a reflection on broader issues, such as metaphors, the death of God, Christian tragedy, and so on. In so doing, I am motivated by the endeavour to map out a broader context for the relationship between theology, literary criticism, and literature, and to elucidate more the overall position of Sölle's and Mieth's approaches.
