| Summary: | The following dissertation is concentrated on introducing the reader with a clear view of the contemporary situation of the drug abuse problem in the island of Cyprus. The theoretical part offers a synoptic aspect on the current status and level of the National strategy against addictive substances (cooperation on an international level, reduction of illegal addictive substances offering, programs used for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in every section of one's social life, therapy and working methods of state institutions). The second part of the dissertation is practical. Through the use of a list of questions, it aims to determine mainly what kind of drugs prevail in Cyprus, determine the approximate age of first drug use and reasons which lead to drug abuse with regard to social relationships and social status. In the epilogue are offered useful suggestions in the section of drug abuse prevention, according to the results of the filled lists of questions.
