Summary:Czech educational system uses distribution of pupils according to ability to different type of schools. Below diploma thesis is considering transition from primary to lower-secondary education, especially gymnasium. Risks and disadvantages oftracking in educational systems, proved by different type of researches, advice not to redistribute students based on individual abilities during compulsory education. In theoretical part there are covered attitudes of Czech society to students' redistribution together with researches and theories which analyzed this matter. In empirical part we consider methodological aspects of qualitative research we have undertaken, which aimes to analyze teachers' opinions and personal experiences regarding tracking of students into different school types, particularly transition of pupils to multi-year gymnasia at the age ofeleven. 2
