Summary: | The thesis deals with the history of apothecaries and pharmacists until 1170. Its primary focus is on the apothecaries who were working in Prague. The first part of this thesis treats of pharmacy development in Europe and continues with the general development of pharmacists and apothecaries in the Czech lands. It does provide a complex overview of pharmacists acting in Prague, whose records are being retained in archive sources. Except for proffesional degree of pharmacists the thesis also describes Medicinal rules, which they had to follow. The thesis also describes equipment and instruments that the pharmacists were using on daily basis. Further, the thesis focuses on the pharmacy atmosphere that used to have its mysterious specificity. In the conclusion, a short excursion to a Prague pharmacy is described.
