The thesis has been divided into three chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to the writer's personality, his work and the complex historical period during which he lived and wrote. The reverberations of his work, including Cruel Tales, both in his local and the Czech environment are also dealt with in this chapter. The second chapter closely examines Villiers' most important collection of short stories - Cruel Tales. We start by determining its themes, storylines and characters, then we continue to analyze Villiers' specific style in the selected excerpts. We finish with the conclusion that the author has a style similar to Charles Baudelaire or Guy de Maupassant, however, Villiers never knew such success and glory, nor received the acclaim of his peers, something we hope that our thesis will be a contribution towards in helping to raise new interest in this exceptional French writer. 2009 info:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesis http://www.nusl.cz/ntk/nusl-273161 cze info:eu-repo/semantics/restrictedAccess
